~ ADOPT-A-STREAM ~

The Conservation Commission is working toward improving the water quality within the Town of Douglas by co-ordinating an Adopt-a-Stream program. The ConCom is seeking individuals and Land Owners to claim responsibility for cleaning and maintaing stretches of rivers and streams throughout the Town. Additional responsibilities may require monitoring the stream for flow level, temperture, and overall water quality. Download and submit the attached form in order to volunteer for your stretch of stream or to allow access on your property in order to clean and maintain the river/stream. This program also allows the Town to take credit in the EPA National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) Permit Program.

~ STREAM CLEAN-UP DAY ~

The Conservation Commission is pleased to announce the success of their first stream clean-up day. On October 23, 2004 the ConCom and the Douglas Common Threads Committee (Private Citizens Group) walked and cleaned up a portion of the Mumford River between Mechanic Street and Cook Street. Thank you to Mr. Gerald Jackman for allowing access to the River across his property. The ConCom is hopeful to continue sponsoring an annual stream clean-up day in an effort to promote citizens awareness of surface water quality and impacts from improper stormwater management and control. This program also allows the Town to take credit in the EPA National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) Permit Program.
