Meeting Minutes
Monday, October 22, 2012
Mitch Cohen called the meeting to order at 7:35pm
Attendance:
Committee: Mitch Cohen, Bob Werme, Tom Devlin, Chris Menn
Staff: Pat Aldrich, Sarah Guimond
Recording Assistant Interviews: Pat had previously explained some details about the job and the general protocol before the meeting. Mitch explained the background and recent history of staff openings. Bob Werme recused himself from the table, as his daughter was an applicant. Kathryn Bowen was called to the table, she introduced herself as a college student from Douglas with varied but limited schedule. Experience as an intern for a public station, worked on public access shows in varying roles. Monday all day and Tuesday night availabilities until 3rd week of December, then it opens up. Jeff Ellis was called to the table, he introduced himself as the assistant cable access coordinator in Hopedale and as an access volunteer in Northbridge, so he had familiarity in general with cable access. Has a lot of experience producing, directing public shows as well. He has a daytime availability and some nights as well. Winona Werme was called to the table, she introduced herself as a Douglas resident interested in cable access, technically sound with both day and night availability. Some discussion on the needs of the department. Tom Devlin motioned to hire all three applicants, including Kathryn Bowen, Jeff Ellis, and Winona Werme, to the position of Recording Assistant for Douglas Cable Access, Chris Menn 2nd, unanimous favor. Pat was tasked with sending an email to get everything started with training and paperwork. Bob Werme came back to the table.
Update on Charter Licensing: Pat submitted “Draft 3” of the Douglas Cable Access Statement 2012 for review by the committee.
Correspondence: Charter submitted their annual rate justification for 2013.
Meeting Minutes: 8/27/12: Tom motioned to accept as presented, Bob 2nd, unanimous favor. 9/24/12: Bob motioned to accept with one change (ending time needs adjusting), Chris 2nd, unanimous favor. Small discussion on the staging that was approved for purchase at that meeting.
Financial Report: September Report: Wages: MTD: $1,777.89, YTD: $5,009.04, Repairs and Maintenance: MTD: $378.76, YTD: $832.52 Office Supplies: MTD/YTD: $241.82, Equipment: YTD/MTD: $2,211.00. TOTAL: MTD: $4,609.47, YTD: $8,294.38
Coordinator’s Report: Octoberfest entertainment taping was successful with two stagings with cameras, Mat Ofcarcik’s program is already finished and ready for broadcast, uploaded to the YouTube channel. Cable vendor booth was a good experiment for formulating ideas for next year. The committee started compiling ideas for Octoberfest 2013, including a sign, power, display, giveaways, possibly trade show materials from Charter. Pat said he was planning on attending more of the Octoberfest meetings in order to better prepare in partnership with them. Some discussion on technical issues.
Equipment: Camera 3 (Sony Mini-DV) viewfinder stopped working. No action was taken, camera will be stored for possible future use.
Community Room Update: Install booked for Wednesday, 10/24/12. Mitch re-capped what was being done.
Membership: Still one vacancy.
Other Business: Bob asked if we should be implementing an online survey to the town about the cable access program to get some feedback. Once the survey has been set up, there should be a bulletin board slide addressing this and pointing people in the right direction. Some discussion on possible programming about the negotiation process. Mitch reminded that the Special Town Meeting was coming up on November 13, as Cable would need to start preparations for recording at the High School.
Adjourn: Tom moved to adjourn at 8:21pm, Bob 2nd, unanimous favor.
