Trustee Meeting

The meeting was called to order at 7:10 PM.

Minutes for the February 25, 2014 meeting and March 20, 2014 meeting were accepted. The minutes for the March 20, 2014 Executive Session were accepted and released.

There was no Treasurer’s Report.

Director’s Report
A $50 donation was received in the name of Lucky the Duck that was saved by kindness and freed from a bad situation. It goes on to say that it was Keith Brown who saved this wonderful bird. The donation will go to children's books as requested by the donor.
The waiver for the MAR was approved and the Library is certified for another year
Budget Update
The Library was directed to re-submit its budget figures to include both a 1% COLA and Steps where appropriate. The total budget went from $155,243 to $158,987.99. Only Gail Bowen was given a step increase.
Discussion on whether using Ransford Pest Control should be continued to control bats and ants. Carlsson explained that their fees had increased from $50/quarter to $78/quarter which also added a $2.00 mailing fee. Other departments also use them, but no one is getting original invoices necessary for remitting fees. It was suggested that the Town Administrator be approached about getting a town wide contract that could save money and perhaps resolve the original invoice issue.
Several computer issues requiring upgrading anti-virus as well as checking other items. In addition, one new laptop for public use was purchased, costing less than $400. A security cable has been ordered for the older laptop so it will be put out permanently for public use. Right now, patrons must present an ID and sign a form to take the laptops off into the library.

The copy machine that the Municipal Center gave the Library is now operational; Canon will be contacted to perform a tune-up
Staff Update
Staff training continues. A page was recently let go for not doing her job.
I have spoken with the new librarian in Uxbridge to both introduce myself and give her some advice that she asked for concerning problem patrons and privacy. She was quite appreciative.
Goals Update
The Board has been kept informed of staff changes. The website, Facebook and the two blogs have been updated. The Bruins article kept the Library in the public’s eye. Technology has been addressed by evaluating the current computer situations. Networked with the Uxbridge Library Director.
The gym at the Municipal Center will be used for a Planetarium Program this summer. Chesebrough offered Friends funds to pay for the program.
About 30 attended Dale Freeman's Children's Concert on March 20th.
A photo and article was in the March 14, 2014 Blackstone Valley Tribune showing the winner of a Bruins shirt from a lottery offered by the State.

Old Business
Building Renovation
There was discussion on the property line discrepancy on Petraglia’s land and if it interferes with the Right of Way the Library wants through the back of his property. Carlsson agreed to meet with Town Engineer Cundiff to resolve the issue.

Chesebrough reported on the Capital Improvement Committee’s expected route to funding the town’s capital needs. She also summarized her thoughts on incorporating the Library’s renovation into the available funding. Biagioni indicated he would try to attend the CIC meeting on March 27th.

Carlsson indicated she is still searching for magnetized letters for the sign. Chesebrough presented a sign that she had Community Development print using colors. Carlsson noted that it would be a good test of whether the colors would fade. She will talk with Town Engineer Cundiff about the feasibility of using this printer for signs.
Front Steps
The front steps were discussed with Town Administrator Guzinski and Adam Furno. Presently A. Furno is handling it with input from Town Engineer Cundiff and Carlsson. Should the estimate exceed $10,000, the BFCC will have to be involved.
Biagioni presented Carlsson with goals for CY 2014. In November Trustees will review progress of the goals finalizing their evaluations in January and meeting in February to determine goals for the next year.
Chesebrough reported that there are now 68 Friends who have paid $1475 in membership dues.

New Business

The next meeting is April 22, 2014.

The meeting adjourned at 8:25 PM.

Respectfully submitted,
