Why do I have to get 2 TB tests?
The two-step PPD test is used to detect individuals with past TB infection who now have diminished skin test reactivity. This procedure reduces the likelihood that a boosted reaction is later interpreted as a new infection. The reason for the 2 stage PPD test appears to be the “booster phenomenon.”
Is a TB test painful?
An allergic reaction can cause a lot of swelling and pain at the site. A sore may be present. You cannot get a TB infection from the tuberculin skin test, because no live bacteria are used for the test.
Why are TB tests required?
A positive TB skin test or TB blood test only tells that a person has been infected with TB bacteria. It does not tell whether the person has latent TB infection (LTBI) or has progressed to TB disease. Other tests, such as a chest x-ray and a sample of sputum, are needed to see whether the person has TB disease.
