Perhaps you should fasten your seatbelt. However, the Why Die signs that can be found across Sioux Falls and South Dakota are more than just a warning to ″think″ when driving. These are the markers that commemorate the spot where someone died – someone who was loved and someone who was missed. As the months go by, the indications begin to shift.
The initiative began as a way to raise awareness among motorists about the dangers of drinking and driving; approximately half of all markers are present as a result of the presence of alcohol in the vehicle. Today, these memorials also honor people who have died as a result of not wearing seat belts, being distracted while driving, or speeding.
