The Log Cabin in the Government Center is courtesy of Firkins Films. It was established by legislation on February 7, 1835, and consisted of a roughly square territory of 30 miles on each side, comprising what is now the northern half of Newton County, the northern half of Jasper County, and a major portion of the county’s northern border with Missouri.
